Each year at Tour de Broads, Norfolk Bloodbikes are up at sunrise, checking all the routes to make sure your ride is as safe and enjoyable as possible. This includes replacing and redirecting signage that has been tampered with and alerting us of any possible safety issues with the road.
Norfolk Blood Bikes is a local registered charity run solely by unpaid volunteers. They transport urgently required blood, plasma, platelets, samples, vaccines, breast milk and any other life-saving medical items to hospitals – at night, daytime, weekends and bank holidays. This service is provided completely free of charge, allowing the NHS to divert valuable funds where they are needed most.
To Date Norfolk Blood Bikes has completed over 6000 life-saving call outs and saved the NHS over £390,000.
Norfolk Blood Bikes provides a service that has saved many lives yet receives no government funding. All costs are met entirely by donations from members of the public, fundraising events and corporate sponsorship.
The main challenges:
Funds – Norfolk Blood Bikes need money to keep the fleet on the road as running costs per month circa £4,000.
Volunteers – they need to recruit and train as many riders, drivers, controllers and fundraisers as possible.
Awareness – Norfolk Blood Bikes need to raise awareness of the work they do by giving presentations and holding events.
Tour de Broads and Pedal Revolution Events are supporting Norfolk Blood Bikes by donating 20 FREE charity places at both Tour de Broads 2019 events. To claim free charity place you just need to pledge to raise a minimum of £150 for Norfolk Blood Bikes. Contact us for more information.
